7) My heart is filled with joy, as I sing to God my Savior!
6) My chains are gone, I am set free...
5) Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?
4) For Jesus, Lord Jesus, is in this very room...
3) Would I stand before You Jesus, or to my knees would I fall?
2) Gentle Mother, peaceful dove, teach us wisdom, teach us love. (Took me a long time to find a version of this I liked - best done as a solo with piano accompaniment in my opinion!)
1) And the number one song that I love, love, love, more than words can describe:

ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful songs! God bless you!
ReplyDelete#7's tune ("Wild Mountain Thyme") is one of my favorite pieces of music and I love that you can set the Magnificat to it. I've sung a number of Magnificat's and this one will probably rank up there. Also... the harmonies are breathtaking -- those alone bring me to tears.
ReplyDelete#5: I actually wrote a college essay based on part of this hymn though at the time I only knew it as an Enya song. :) It's one of my "when I need some peace" hymns.
Yes, it is a beautiful setting for the Magnificat!
DeleteI had never heard #5 until my parish started singing it a few months ago. I used to like Enya but never knew this song! I looked up her lyrics - of course hers say "since love is lord of heaven and earth" instead of "since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth." Not surprising. : )
I wish the Mark Haas recording of #7 was available on iTunes. The recording on there takes it at too fast of a tempo and is a woman singing. There is something that is just special about men in harmony on acoustic instruments.
DeleteI love 7, 3, 1, too! Have you heard the latest Jason Crabb "Let Mercy Hold You"?
ReplyDeleteI haven't! I'll have to check it out!
