Today I'm sharing my five favorite hand-me-downs in our house.
1) This is a little book/plaque that sat on top of my piano throughout my childhood and at some point came to my house to sit on top of my piano again. It has a poem on it called "This is a Home Where Children Live." It always made me feel good to read it as a child, knowing that my parents never expected our house to be perfect because it was a "loved and lived in home," and it is a good reminder to me now that I'm a mom myself.
2) Okay, this one's a stretch. My mother-in-law gave this to me about a year ago because she never used it. Truth be told, I haven't used it yet either. But I'm glad I have it because someday I'm going to have extra time to do fun things like make homemade bread and pasta. Really, I'm glad I have it. I just haven't had time to use it yet.
3) My grandma's apron. It's cute and actual vintage, not something you can buy in a store today made to look vintage. It's brown and white gingham with white and brown accents. It's very detailed, actually.
4) Steve's grandma's curio cabinet. We were running out of shelves high enough to keep little hands from reaching breakables. This has helped (as long as no one decides to dive into it). We have a lot of hand-me-down furniture actually - our dining table, a couch, two sets of living room end tables, and even our master bed.
5) My brother's motorcycle circa 1987 (it's like those horses on springs). This is Lucas way back when, but it is actually one of Tyler's favorite toys. It's more his style - dangerous. It is still in great condition and makes all the noises. It's true what they say - they don't make 'em like they used to!
Do you have any favorite hand-me-downs in your house? The more I look around the more I find!
Thanks for hosting, Hallie!
I love the white Kitchenaid! I have a cinnamon red color. Wanna trade ;) haha
ReplyDeleteMarie... I have that exact same mixer and I love it! Start that awesome thing up and get baking! : ) You will love it too!
ReplyDeleteWanna convince my kids not to dump ingredients all over the floor whenever I attempt to bake? I miss it!
DeletePour some flour on the counter for them to draw/play in.
DeleteI love the apron. So cute! And your little guy on the motorcycle, Priceless. :-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't live without my KitchenAid. Well, I could, but life would be a lot less happy.
ReplyDeleteEvery piece of furniture we have is a hand-me-down except one of the cribs, the sofa, and our buffet - all of which were gifts. Without our hand-me-down furniture we'd eat off a card table, sleep on the floor, and keep our clothes in bins.
ReplyDeleteLOL, yep, once I start looking it's everywhere!
DeleteLove love love your apron! And it's real vintage! Swoon!
ReplyDeleteGreat theme here. Cool stories and pics, too!
